FEATURED DEMONSTRATORS
See the Featured Turner
Demonstrations page for additional information
Cindy Drozda
Cindy hails from Boulder,
Colorado. She is a full
time wood turner, and has
worked with wood professionally
for over 25 years.
She has demonstrated and
taught a variety of wood-turning projects around the US, and internationally.
Her elegant containers and vessels turned from
burls and Banksia pods , are sold at the finest
shows and galleries. Lidded containers have fascinated
me since I was a child hiding my secret treasures,
and today they are my most creatively stimulating
body of work. When I create a turned container
I like to hide a jewel under the lid. When the vessel is opened a hidden treasure is revealed .
Phil Brennion
Phil Brennion is a studio
woodturner who resides in
Chino Valley, Arizona. He
has been a professional woodworker
for almost 30 years,
the last 20yrs., focusing on
woodturning.
Phil was the first to popularize the Southwest
form in turned wood and this quickly became
his recognized specialty.
Phil is also known for the innovative techniques he
has brought to woodturning, including surface
smoking and the use of explosive powders to emulate
the patinas of ancient vessels.
“Developing new techniques in turning, while
holding to good design principles, keeps woodturning
exciting for me” - Phil Bennion
Robert Rosand
Robert has been working
with wood since he was a child. He teaches, demonstrates
and writes articles for
the American Woodturner
magazine. Robert has served
on the board of directors
for six years and also served as vice-president for the
American Association of Woodturners.
One of his Christmas tree ornaments had been chosen to
be placed on the White House Christmas tree.
He and his wife Susan have been married for over thirty
years. They occasionally combine their talents on a collaborative
piece. They live in the woods of Pennsylvania
in a home they built.
Frank Sudol
Frank has been turning for 26 years,
but entered the international scene in
1993 with a new technique called
piercing. Three years later he pushed
for the use of an airbrush, color and
texture combined with the piercing.
In 1995 he introduced a new version of the deep hollowing
bar changing the nature of turned objects.
Since biology is his training background, he emphasizes
his encounters with nature, its creatures and their importance.
He is a champion of exploration, of taking risks, of
making a trail where there is no road. In his senior years
he is dedicating his life and energies to helping “ amateur
artists” to buck the barriers that block creativity.
Frank’s work has been shown in 6 major museums of
art.
Take his class and learn a new way of looking at a
chunk of wood.

Florida Turn-A-Round
Like last year, the Turn-A-Round will be a “team-turn”. However, this year a team can be made up of any 3 turners who want to form a team … they do not have to be from a club or from the same club … they can simply be 3 turners who want to be a competing team.
Teams will be presented with a turning project that they must complete in a given time period. During the event, those attendees not competing are free to watch the competition and cheer their favorite team on, or they can visit with the vendors or other attendees and demonstrators.
At the end of the competition turning time, the winning team will be determined by one or more of our Feature Demonstrators.
Contact the symposium chairman for more information and/or to enter your team ! The winning team will
receive the official “traveling” Turn-A-Round cup (and bragging rights! ) for one year.
